The complex of spas and baths of which it was once a part has now been destroyed without trace, but the elegant building designed by Hungarian architect Miklós Ybl has survived floods, sieges, and dramatic restorations.
“The Grand,” as it is known to many, still stands, and over the course of its history, it has welcomed illustrious figures from all over the world, including archdukes and queens, giants of the sciences and the arts, and internationally famous athletes, peasant women, and homeless groundskeepers. The hotel, which has been a silent witness to Hungarian and European history, is now telling its tale.
